Development comments

This page is included to provide a record of work done and proposed for the development of the website.
I don't know how it will relate to communication in the process, but I will use it for record keeping and up dates.
The "Initial Development" post contains my first email regarding developing the site, with updates as I have made progressive tweaks over time.

1) A copy of each pages of the current site, some with edit comments. I did not complete tedious tasks like uploading all the old Sermons currently in the old site. But that is not a big deal, it just did not advance the project much today.
2) A whole lot of placeholder content, like a lame logo and a weak demonstration of how links could have pictures, as the sample site does.
3) I put a development blog page on this draft site. It would not be on the final site. But I figured it might be a good way to keep track of discussion of the site during development. I have copied this email there.

In terms of our hurdles going forward, I see them as following into the following categories:

1) Pictures: A visually interesting site has lots of engaging photographs, used to make the site visually interesting, to use as backgrounds, and to serve as motifs. We have very few and not many of quality.
2) Content: The front page is a marketing exercise. Editorial choices need to be made. We could start by bringing existing "About us" and/or "Who are we?" text forward, but that needs a lot of big picture top level choices on the image we want.
3) Detailed questions about different pages:
- What header image do we want on each page?
- Do we want to hold the Sermons on our site or link to BI Times?

- Might we want to post the Sermons on a blog page, welcoming comment?
- On the Annual Reports Page I put one item as readable on screen. Do we want to do that?
- There is no good calendar service without additional charge, but I would argue that a calendar is less user friendly for the public than a maintained list of events.
- Weebly does have "Donate" and email and email linking facilities that I have no explored but might be valuable.

4) Process questions. Who will do the weekly updates, like maintaining events and posting Sermons? This takes no time, so I could do it but having someone off island do regular updates has issues.
